I’m starting the week off with a Women’s Gift Guide! I’ve designed this guide to be chock full of gifts for all the women in your life that are difficult to buy for: mothers, mother-in-laws, sisters, aunts, etc.! I think there is something for women of all ages on this list and I’ve split it up into tiers based on dollar budget like I did for the Men’s Gift Guide. Christmas is only a little more than 2 weeks away, so it’s really time to buckle down on your shopping!
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Now that Thanksgiving is over, we are officially into Christmas season! This means that now it is socially acceptable to play Christmas music – although I’m a Christmas junkie and have been listening for quite a few weeks! So to start the Christmas season off right for my weekly playlist I am sharing a holiday edition of some of my favorite Christmas songs in random order!
Now that I’m reading this over, I clearly love boy bands singing holiday tunes! The only song on here that I think a lot of people won’t know is “Feel This Christmas.” In Real Life was a group that formed after an ABC singing competition show in the spring of 2017. They came out with this song last year and I think it’s so good! If you also like cheesy melodies of boy bands, then you will definitely like this song!
The only other side note I have is about “Oh Santa!” I think everyone knows “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. “Oh Santa” is definitely no where near as popular but I like it a little bit better because it’s so peppy! It will put any scrooge in a good mood!
Do you like my list? Let me know what your favorite Christmas songs are in the comments!
I hope everyone had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving with their loved ones! It’s Black Friday which means tons of shopping and sales! In preparation for all the shopping and sales, I am going to feature a couple of gift guides on my blog and today’s post is a Men’s Gift Guide!
Let me first start by saying how much I LOVE presents. My love language is definitely gifts and because of this, I typically put a lot of thought into most people’s presents. If I care about you, then I’ve definitely thought what to purchase for you! With that being said, I put a lot of thought into this gift guide so let me know what you think in the comments!
I’ve chosen today to start with a men’s gift guide because I think they can be super tricky to buy for. Whether it’s your dad, husband, uncle, male coworker, boyfriend, etc., it can be tough. And in the case of it being your significant other it is not necessarily that you can’t figure out what to buy, but rather how much to spend. Depending on how long you have been dating, this can be really hard. There aren’t too many worse dating situations than an awkward gift exchange where you spent $250 on your boyfriend, only to receive a $30 gift in return. Ouch. This is why it’s very important to drop subtle hints (or sometimes not so subtle hints!) well before the holidays to make sure you are both on the same page with how much to spend. So with this in mind, I’ve created a three tiered gift guide based on gift budget.
First let’s begin with Gifts under $50. The beginner step for men’s gifts. Maybe you’ve only been dating a couple of months or you got a random male coworker in a gift swap at work, or you got your uncle in the family secret santa. Whatever the case may be, if you don’t want to spend too much money then I’ve got some ideas for you!
It’s Sunday which means I am back with a new playlist! I decided to continue with the theme from last week, so this week’s playlist is made up of one song released each year from 2002 – 2013, for a total of twelve songs. I really had a hard time picking one song per year for a lot of these years! I feel like there was a lot of good music out during the 2000s. So I hope you enjoy this mix and let’s get on to it!
Week 6 Playlist: 2002 – 2013 Songs
2002: Starry Eyed Surprise – Paul Oakenfold – ok, does anyone else remember this song from a Coca Cola commercial? I found it here if you want to relive it! But I have always looooved this song and to this day whenever I hear this song it makes me want to rollerblade by a beach and drink an ice cold Coke, so job well done by the Coca Cola marketing team!
2003: Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) – Ashanti – Ashanti was seriously living the good life back in the early 2000s. Homegirl was everywhere. This song definitely takes me back!
2004: Move Ya Body – Nina Sky – This song ♥ love, love, love! Just makes you wanna move ya body, girl.
2005: Don’t Forget About Us – Mariah Carey – Mariah came back so hard with the Emancipation of Mimi album. It really solidified her status to me of being a super diva. So many good tracks off that album, including this #1 gem!
2006: Stars Are Blind – Paris Hilton – Paris ruled a good chunk of the 2000s pop culture scene and I was a true fan. I totally watched The Simple Life – my college roommate even gave me the DVD, which I still own! (#hoarder) I think most people rolled their eyes when she released an album, but Stars Are Blind was really catchy and actually went pretty far on the charts.
2007: What Hurts The Most – Cascada – It took me years to realize that Cascada remade a country song and not the other way around. Since I’m really not into country music, I totally thought Rascal Flatts ruined this song! I think the version by Cascada is way better and it’s a great dance or gym mix song!
2008: The Boss (ft. T-Pain) – Rick Ross – T-Pain really knew what he was doing back in 2008. He was either featured on a song, had his own song, or was producing someone’s song, and I was definitely into his auto-tune ways. This song has the best beat and just makes you wanna be a BO$$.
2009: Money to Blow (ft. Lil’ Wayne & Drake)– Birdman – Back in the day, I would always play this while getting ready to go out. It makes me want to go to Las Vegas and spend all my money $$$!
2010: Please Don’t Go – Mike Posner – I liked a few of Mike Posner’s songs so one day I googled him and discovered that in addition to being a successful music artist, he also graduated from Duke?! What- not fair. Some people have all the luck.
2011: Domino – Jessie J – This is just a fun song to dance to – it’s really catchy & upbeat!
2012: Adorn – Miguel – This guy is soooo good! Come serenade me, Miguel.
2013: Timber (ft. Ke$ha) – Pitbull – This is another song that I always put on my gym mix! Pitbull makes the best dance songs.
That’s all for now – hope everyone had a great weekend!
So it’s been a little hectic of a weekend but I wanted to keep up with my weekly playlist so here it is! This week I decided I wanted to do a 90s playlist so instead of just picking 12 random 90s songs, I picked a song that was released each year of the decade and into the early 2000s. This was kind of fun for me to guess in my head which year each song was released and see how close I was! There is a decent amount of variety in this and I hope you enjoy!
Week 5 Playlist: 1990 – 2001 Songs
1990: On a Sunday Afternoon – A Lighter Shade of Brown – such a good old school song! Makes me yearn for the summer though.
1991: Motownphilly – Boyz II Men – classic early 1990s!
1992: Sweet Thing – Mary J. Blige – such a good song to belt out in the car alone!! Plus, it reminds me of Love & Basketball and that movie is just the best. ♥
1993: Crazy – Aerosmith Love this iconic music video with Alicia Silverstone.
1994: I Wanna Be Down – Brandy Omg BRANDY! Love her although I do think Monica is a better singer.
1995: The Most Beautiful Girl in the World – Prince One of my all-time favorite Prince songs. RIP
1996: Ready to Go – Republica – This is actually on one of my Jock Jams albums which are really just chock full of such great dance hits such as this one. This song is also in Vegas Vacation which is one of faves!
1997: I Will Come to You – Hanson – I was a Hanson fan back in the day and totally still am now. I think they are really talented and good for them for being child stars and seemingly turning out fine and still making music and touring today! I never understood the Hanson hate.
1998: Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) – Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz – I feel like this song is one that if I mentioned it to someone they wouldn’t know what I was talking about but once I played it, the memories would come flooding back. This is a good throwback!
1999: Heartbreaker (ft. Jay-Z) – Mariah Carey – Big, big MC fan here and this is up there on my favorite MC songs! I also loooove this music video! In it she is two different people, Jerry O’Connell makes an appearance, she’s also a cartoon, and its got Jay-Z with what, in my opinion, is one of his best rap cameos! A++++
2000: Stranger in my House – Tamia I can just picture myself jamming out to this song in my little red Toyota on my way to high school. But I also still listen to this song all the time while working out. It’s so fast and upbeat that it always makes me run faster!
2001: Escape – Enrique Iglesias – Ok, I was just watching Bridesmaids yesterday and I laugh so hard at the airplane scene. I basically just try to catch that scene every time it’s on TV. I love the part when she sits next to that random guy and then claims to be “Mrs. Iglesias” hahaha – Everyone thinks of Enrique when she says that, right? I’m not alone, right? Anyway, I think Escape is his best song ever!
So let’s take it back to the Fall of 2002. It’s senior year of high school. I’m sitting in calculus class wearing my favorite L.E.I. glitter jeans, a cranberry colored rayon Wet Seal top, and chunky heeled black boots from Payless Shoes. My friend, Keri, sits behind me. One day Keri starts telling a story about how over the weekend her uncle showed up to a party with a mixed CD titled “Uncle Ray’s Boom Boom Mix”. I bust out laughing at the thought of 1. someone’s uncle even making a mixed CD and 2. actually naming it “Uncle Ray’s Boom Boom Mix” and bringing it to a party. I continued giggling off and on throughout class that day and from that point on every mixed CD I ever made somehow incorporated “Boom Boom Mix” in the title. It could have been anything (Summertime Boom Boom Mix, 90s Boom Boom Mix, Gym Boom Boom Mix, if I made a CD for someone then it was “Carlee’s Boom Boom Mix”, etc.) This went on for years until I stopped making CDs because they were old news and everyone had moved on to iPods. I’m going to say that for me that was probably 2008, but for all those years the Boom Boom Mix lived on.
I haven’t seen Keri in forever, but we are friends on social media. Once she messaged me reminiscing about all our old laughs in calculus class, but I’m not sure she would even remember this story about Uncle Ray’s CD. However, Uncle Ray and the Boom Boom Mix live on because today the playlist I’m sharing is a throwback to songs that remind me of high school! There are TONS but this is a small sampling for your enjoyment! And what better way for me to honor high school then with a playlist paying tribute to Uncle Ray?! So without further ado, I present:
Week 4 Playlist: Uncle Ray’s Boom Boom Mix – High School Edition Vol. 1
#1 – Nelly
21 Questions (feat. Nate Dogg) – 50 Cent
Addicted – Simple Plan
Don’t Wanna Try – Frankie J
Where the Party At (feat. Nelly) – Jagged Edge
Just Like a Pill – P!nk
Graduation – Vitamin C
Castles in the Sky – Ian Van Dahl
Party Up – DMX
No Letting Go – Wayne Wonder
Trade It All, Pt. 2 (feat. P. Diddy & Jagged Edge) – Fabolous
Since it’s the weekend I am back featuring a new playlist to start your week off right!
If there is one topic that I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on it’s late 90s/early 2000s boy bands. I truly was such a fan girl for all of them, although I personally think the Backstreet Boys are the best all around group of that time. (And you should really catch the Backstreet Boys documentary from 2015 “Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” if you have a hot minute- it’s AMAZING.) ANYWAYZ, moving on….this playlist actually isn’t about any of the mainstream boy bands that everyone knows about. Rather, for this list I have compiled songs from lesser known boy bands from that same era. You may not recognize some of the song titles or group names, but I think that once you give them a listen you will certainly remember. And there are some real gems in here! So get ready to sit back, relax, give a listen and take it back to the good old days~!
Week 3 Playlist: Forgotten Boy Bands
I’ll Be Your Everything– Youngstown – I remember this was the theme song for the movie Inspector Gadget. There is a Disney version to this song and a racier album version.
Girl On TV – LFO – RIP Rich Cronin 🙁 – Does anyone else recall the video with J. Love Hew?! She was such a bombshell at the time.
Back for Good – Take That – Such a good song by a British boy band.
Can I Get Your Number (A Girl Like You) – No Authority – I remember this song so well because I had the CD single! It’s so catchy and corny. Perfection!
Slam Dunk (Da Funk) – Five – Great workout song from the Brits.
I Can’t Wait Another Minute – Hi-Five – Classic 90s slow jam!
Back Here – BBMak – Does anyone else recall the Disney channel concerts? I definitely watched the BBMak one a zillion times. Loved this song.
Faded – Soul Decision – I think they only had this one song and it’s a good one.
We Fit Together – O-Town – I totally watched Making the Band and was a fan of O-Town (Dan was my fav♥). This song wasn’t as popular as “All or Nothing” but I loved it because it was upbeat and peppy. Plus, the video was all of them singing on a big boat and it looked like SO MUCH fun! lol I’ve linked it here!
Swear It Again – Westlife – This is up there on my all time favorite slow songs list. It’s a great ballad.
The Earth, The Sun, The Rain – Color Me Badd – I wouldn’t say that this group, per se, is forgotten; they were pretty big in the 90s. However, I don’t feel that this particular song got the love it deserved. It wasn’t on the radio too much and I can remember getting so excited when it would come on! Kids today will never understand…
It Happens Everytime – Dream Street – I know Jesse McCartney started out in this group. I can’t recall any other song by them, but this one was definitely popular and I’ve got it on my iPod. 😉
Today I am back with my second playlist. For this one I decided to go with a theme and I chose one that is near and dear to my heart: Girl Power! That basically means that I featured all songs that I find empowering by female artists. To me, this doesn’t necessarily mean hating on men. Rather it’s about embracing your true self, femininity, and the power to do and be whatever you want! So get it guuurl and listen to my mix! It’s guaranteed to make you smile and dance 🙂
Week 2 Playlist: Girl Power
Break Free (ft. Zedd) – Ariana Grande
Can’t Hold Us Down (ft. Lil’ Kim) – Christina Aguilera
Too Much – Spice Girls – You know the Spice Girls had to be on a Girl Power playlist, right?!
Hollaback Girl– Gwen Stefani
Bitch – Meredith Brooks
Another Dumb Blonde– Hoku
Sorry– Beyoncé
What It’s Like to Be Me – Britney Spears
This is Me – Dream
Work – Iggy Azalea
Supergirl – Hilary Duff
We R Who We R – Ke$ha – I think she dropped the $ but I still love it!
Hope y’all have a great day and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Recently, I had a request from a reader to post about music, more specifically to post playlists. I had thought this might be fun to do beforehand so when I had a request to do it, I figured why not?!
With that being said, I’m not sure how I would describe my music taste. I would say I am most known for being totally stuck in 2006 and playing the same songs 8,000 times. I still have an old iPod that for some reason won’t sync to my iTunes anymore (stupid technology) so there hasn’t been a new song added to it since, I would say roughly, 2013. I have newer stuff on my phone but I really miss my iPod having everything. Any tips for me on how to fix this?!
Anyway, my favorite radio stations on Sirius XM are ’90s on 9, Pop2k, Fly, & Holly (obvi). My music collection is definitely a mix of those stations, plus some 80s and older, plus more recent songs and stuff from today (Post Malone 4-eva).
The first playlist I’m listing is simply from me hitting shuffle on my dearly beloved iPod so it’s all older songs. I hope you enjoy and maybe find a song that you remember from years ago and haven’t heard in a while! I will be posting a new playlist every week so be sure to check back in frequently! 😉
We Like to Party (The Vengabus) – Vengaboys – (This song always makes me think of Six Flags & that old guy dancing lol)
Shawty – Plies feat. T-Pain
Shadow of the Day – Linkin Park
Alive – P.O.D.
Nothing on You Ft. Bruno Mars – B.o.B.
Mysterious Ways – U2
When Doves Cry – Prince (RIP)
Day Dreaming (Remix) – DJ Drama Feat. Akon, Snoop Dogg, & T.I.
Moment 4 Life – Nicki Minaj feat. Drake
No Strings Attached – ‘N Sync (this is a good workout song)
Low (ft. T-Pain) – Flo Rida – (I swear someone just the other day was telling me that they STILL hate this song and I was like What?! This song is so good!! CLASSIC even)
Luv Me, Luv Me– Shaggy feat. Janet Jackson – (one of my all time favorites)
Ok, I’m lying. The theme song to Winnie the Pooh also came on from some old Disney CD I had, but I didn’t include it. Hahaha
Until next time and if anyone has any recs for wireless headphones let me know! I’m trying to get into 2018 and get some for working out!!
I love the change into cooler seasons because I loooove fall fashion and wearing sweaters, scarves, and jackets. Today I’m sharing some of my most recent Fall finds, wants, and things I just love about this time of the year! So let’s get started!
Is there anything better than eating warm fluffy waffles drenched in decadent maple syrup while lounging around watching TV on a Saturday morning?! I think not.
I have this snuggie in my cart to purchase from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I always have a 20% coupon on hand since they mail them out so often and that brings this handy blanket down to $12! Such a steal. Remember when Snuggies first came out back in 2009 or 2010?! I HAD TO HAVE the leopard one. My mom got it for me for Christmas and I still sleep with it every night. (#noshame) It has lasted through SOOOOO many washes and has been so good to me, but I think it’s time for an update and this plaid one is perfect for moving into cooler temps and watching Hallmark movies and drinking hot cocoa!
This link features the current color offerings from Patagonia in this vest. I’m actually really annoyed that Patagonia stopped making this vest in black. I mean, shouldn’t that be a staple color offered season after season?!!??!?! I digress. In any event, it looks like the perfect vest for apple picking and doing other corny seasonal activities!
Every fall I fill a big pumpkin shaped candy dish with this autumn mix. I love candy corn and especially the little mallocreme pumpkins!!! I know it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I find them so delicious!
I picked up a mug similar to this one at Hobby Lobby that I posted on my Instagram. The one linked is from Party City and is at such great price point. I like to always use a mug that goes along with the current season. This one made me giggle, because I love to use pet names, especially “pumpkin”.
If you suffer from chronic dry hands in the Fall and Winter then you need this hand cream. Kiehl’s is well known for making quality all natural products and I’ve been using this hand lotion for years. It works so well that I only apply it once a day (before I go to bed) and my hands never feel dry. It really works wonders and the second I run out and go a day or two without applying it, I immediately notice how dry my hands feel and reorder it. I’ve ordered this tons of times over the years and it’s worth every penny!
So I try to stay away from going into Bath & Body Works because I always end up leaving the store with so much stuff that I don’t need. However, I do really love the seasonal soaps because they brighten up my bathroom and the scents just make me happy! Also, how cute is this fox antibacterial holder?! Think I need this.
Some people probably think $290 is way too much for a scarf. However, in addition to this scarf costing much less than the classic Burberry cashmere plaid scarf which retails about $430, I would like to invoke the cost per wear method into the equation. This is my favorite method to revert back to when arguing over the price of an item. If you think that you will keep this scarf forever (and you should) then really you will probably wear it at least a hundred times in your life (if not more), thus making the cost per wear a couple bucks which is practically nothing! 😉 And Voilà, the scarf has turned into an investment piece that you should own!
Let me know if you like my picks and if you love Fall as much as I do! Hope everyone is enjoying the Fall foliage and sports season!!
Don’t forget to get your $1.08 medium hot or iced coffee at Dunkin’ on 10/8!
