Hi All!
Today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite items in my closet: it’s the J.Crew Tippi Sweater and I own approximately 7 of these sweaters in a rainbow of colors! I’ve accumulated these over the years because I really, really love this sweater. And I’m not the only one – it definitely has a cult following and it was even talked about on Jeopardy! a few years ago when a contestant wore a different Tippi sweater every day until she lost! The following are my top reasons for loving this sweater:
1. It’s super lightweight which makes it ideal for layering over or under shirts, jackets, etc.
2. J.Crew has offered it in nearly every color and shade of the rainbow which means there is always a color that will work for you!
3. It’s three quarter length sleeves are perfect for showing off all of your fabulous arm candy!
4. It’s mostly offered in solid colors, but every once in a while they come out with it in a fun print! I’ve seen both leopard and camo print offered before. They currently still have it in stock in leopard online (currently 50% off!) and more recently they have come out with some Tippi sweaters with contrasting collars.
5. Finally, because it’s the most basic, lightweight sweater, it’s super easy to dress it up for work or down for a more casual vibe on the weekends, making it a super versatile piece for year round wear!
If you read the reviews online they are overall very positive with a solid 4 star rating. However, there are more than a few reviewers who have complained about the lack of quality and the sweater not being long lasting. A few years back, I purchased a Tippi in a green color that was on clearance and literally after one day of wearing it, it was pilling. 🙁 That was really aggravating, but I also felt like this was why it was the only color on clearance at the time. I didn’t call to complain, I used my sweater shaver to remove the pilling and continued to wear it occasionally. I haven’t had that happen to any of my colors of Tippi sweaters. They do start to pill a bit after a number of wears, but again, I use my sweater shaver and I think I’ve only had to get rid of one over the years which was due to the fact that I got a stain on it that wouldn’t come out.
As for sizing, I’ve always found them to run true to size and I always buy a size small. It looks best as a fitted sweater so I would stick to your regular size. Since we are moving into spring, their latest collection of colors are a mix of pretty pastel hues, in addition to year round color offerings, like black, grey, & navy. It retails for $79.50, but J.Crew puts them on sale quite often and currently they are 40% off, bringing them down to a reasonable $47.70! I definitely wouldn’t pay full price, but it is so worth it to purchase when they are on sale!
